ELITE SERIES PRO RUSS LANE EXPLAINS HOW BOOMERANG TOOLS GIVE HIM AN EDGE ON THE BASS TOURNAMENT TRAIL

Russ Lane Pro AnglerLOS ALTOS, Calif., July 13, 2011As a tournament angler competing at the highest level, BASS Elite Series pro Russ Lane is very particular about his fishing gear. That includes everything from his rods and reels to the pliers and line-cutters he uses. The four-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier has been putting Boomerang Tool Company’s newest retractable tools to the test on the tournament trail, and he’s thoroughly impressed.

“I’ve been using Boomerang’s new Big Catch H1 pliers, as well as the company’s new compact line-cutting device, ‘The Snip,’ and I’m blown away by the quality, durability and convenience,” said Lane. “Thanks to the built-in retractable tether, I never have to search around for my tools when I need them – they’re always right by my side. I attach the spring-loaded cord to my belt, and when I want to use the tool, the cord extends up to three feet. This innovation saves me a lot of time and effort during a day of fishing, and when it comes to tournament competition, time and energy are crucial.”

According to Lane, while Boomerang’s Big Catch H1 Pliers are incredibly light (5.9 ounces), they’re tough enough to handle the rigors of heavy-duty tournament use.

“These pliers feature all-metal body construction, tungsten carbide cutting blades and rugged aluminum jaws, so they take a beating and resist rust and corrosion,” he said. “Boomerang made the tongue-and-groove jaw ends replaceable too. If they ever wear out, you can buy the replacement parts instead of purchasing a new pair of pliers.”

Lane has also found “The Snip” – Boomerang’s retractable line-cutter – to be an equally indispensible tool. “When I’m fishing tournaments, I love to target offshore structure whenever possible. “But fishing around that kind of structure frays my line, and that means plenty of line cutting and re-rigging. Thanks to the retractable cord, ‘The Snip’ is always secure and handy, saving me valuable time. It also cuts all types of line – including braid – quickly, easily and precisely, he noted. “In fact, when I’m cutting braid, I can even ‘angle’ the cut to make threading the line through the eye of a lure easier.”

Lane also appreciates his Snip’s built-in LED light. “Prior to a day of tournament fishing, I’m up before the crack of dawn readying my boat, prepping tackle and tying on lures. This optional feature makes cutting line at night or in low-light conditions a breeze.”

Boomerang’s new Big Catch H1 Pliers sell for $39.95 (MSRP), while the non-lighted and lighted versions of “The Snip” have manufacturer’s suggested retail prices of  $11.95 and $14.95, respectively.
